**
Dressage Tests are patterns set by the USDF and the USEA and
ridden in a 20 x 40 meter dressage arena.
Dressage “only” tests which
are not part of a combined test may be ridden from memory or called.
**Combined tests
are a combination of a dressage ride and a jumping round per the rules
stated by the
United states
Eventing association. Except
for Maiden and Ameoba, dressage tests must be ridden from memory.
scores are converted into penalty points and averaged together.
The rider with the lowest average
wins.
**Jumping tests:
Jumping tests will be conducted after each corresponding Combined test
(2’3 will be after tadpole, 2’6 after beginner novice, etc).
Horses’ jumping “style and
form” are not judged. Just
time and penalties. Refusals
and rails are each 4 penalties . Scoring
standards: Fastest clean
round wins. If no clean
rounds, the fastest round with the fewest penalties wins.
** Equitation
classes are those where the riders’ position is judged, not the
horses’ way of going. Basic
equitation is the same regardless of discipline, with only slight
variations. Ex: There should
be a straight line from the riders’ ear, thru the shoulder, hip, to
the heel. There should be a
straight line from the riders elbow to the horses’ mouth.
Horses with a higher head carriage will require a higher hand
position to maintain a straight line than those with a lower head
carriage.
** Multi-discipline
(MD) classes are open to riders of all disciplines (discipline evidenced
by tack and show attire). Unless
class is qualified as an Equitation class, the Horse
will be judged according to the standards of that discipline.
**A green horse is
one with limited experience(s) and/or limited time under saddle. The
green horse classes evaluate the horses’ way of going and training,
per the desired goals of the riders’ discipline. The riders’
position is not judged except where the rider’s position affects the
horse’s performance or, a task is not executed. Over-all mental
relaxation without being sluggish and accurate transitions without
abruptness will be rewarded.
